During this time of upheaval in the healthcare system, the practice of case management is far from standing still. New models, techniques and delivery paradigms are emerging to counter the changes stemming from healthcare reform and other quality-based trends like value-based purchasing, pay-for-performance and consumer-driven healthcare.
Amid these changes, case management holds the potential to effect change from a fragmented, uncoordinated and costly healthcare system to a streamlined delivery arena combining the coordination of providers and payers to ensure that care is evidence-based, patient- and family-centered and cost-effective.
In honor of Case Management Week, Case In Point has brought together three leaders in tune with trends and strategies that are changing the face of healthcare delivery – all from the perspective of new-age case management programs and protocols.
By attending this training session you will:
- Understand how new and emerging models will improve the delivery of care.
- Learn managed care-based strategies aimed to meet the demands of the newly insured while improving health and healthcare and containing costs.
- Explore consumer-driven healthcare and the opportunities it will bring to case managers.
- Realize the importance of “progression of care” delivery models.
About the Webinar
Case managers are in an excellent position to take the lead in managing complex patient care processes and ensure coordination of care within diverse and often disjunctive settings. With a down economy, high unemployment rates and efforts to control spending changing the delivery of care, the skills that case managers bring are in high demand. In this webinar we look at three trends that call for case managers to step up to the challenge and use all of their skills to meet the demands impacting the system.
With healthcare spending over $2.5 trillion dollars, intense efforts to control spending are front and center for payers, providers and consumers. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, hospital care and physician/clinical services combined account for half (51%) of the nation’s health expenditures. As a result, hospitals and providers are under intense scrutiny in efforts to control costs. Progression of care is an approach organizations are using to manage the complexities of the fragmented care delivery and contain healthcare costs.
With the passage of health reform, insurance payers and providers are trying to find ways to handle the 40 million uninsured Americans who will gain coverage in 2014. Managed care case managers will play an important role in ensuring the delivery of care and resources are used appropriately. They will be called on to educate and empower consumers and provide tools that encourage them to take responsibility for their health and healthcare.
Last, as consumers become increasingly responsible for the cost of healthcare they are asking questions and demanding answers as to how they can use their healthcare dollar as efficiently as possible. Many are starting to realize the system is complex and difficult to understand and are searching for professionals to assist them in navigating the healthcare system.
These trends and challenges can be energizing for case management professionals who use their clinical and professional skills and reclaim the energy and passion that led them into the healthcare field.
